Lemon water drink

Lemons yummy yummy yummy lemons. Pretty much every backyard in New Zealand has a lemon tree just not ours. Luckily one of my girlfriend has a wonderful beautiful lemon tree that I love and she doesn’t so I pop over and help myself whenever I need (actually must go get some more soon). Lemons are so useful not only can you dink them, you can make spreads out of them, you can bake with them you can also clean with them.lemon_drink_nz

At the moment I’m loving (and craving!) drinking lemon water. I’d love to say I’m drinking it for all the wonderful healthy benefits but I’m just loving it (though maybe it’s my body crying out for help?). Until recently I had thought drinking lemons was not a good idea. Actually I hated it and thought it was so disgusting funny how your taste buds change when you move towards a healthier lifestyle.

So what’s lemon water? Basically fill your water container with filtered water and then squeeze some lemon juice into your bottle. You can add as much lemon juice as you like to taste really. Then I pop the lemon in the fridge for later. I’ve been drinking two of these bottles a day. So yummy.

So why would you want to drink lemon water too?

– Lemons are high in vitamin C – really good when the weather is getting cooler so great for keeping flus and colds at bay.

– Lemons contain pectin fiber which is good for colon health.

– Lemons are great at flush out toxins from your body; this explains why I’ve been peeing so much!!

– Lemons are a great source of citric acid, potassium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium.

– Lemons dissolve uric acid so are good for inflammation and joint pain.

– Lemons are good for your skin – apparently lemons help stop wrinkles and acne. Drink away for this reason alone!!!

– Lemons help with eye health and helps fight eye problems.

– Aids digestion and encourages the production of bile.

– Helps promote wound healing.

– Lemons help in weight loss.

– Hydrates your lymph system.

So grab yourself some organic backyard lemons and get squeezing today.

Aside from lemon water (which I hated until recently) I listening to this fantastic talk on Kombucha today. I’ve tried it once and wasn’t keen but after listening to this I am keen to try it again.

Yes, lemons are great. You have some great ideas here, thanks.

One thing I would like to add is that if you are drinking a lot of lemon water you must brush you teeth afterwards. The problem is that it removes enamel and weakens the teeth with too much exposure. I have had this problem with kombucha and I now have stopped drinking it all day long. I just drink three times a day and brush each time afterwards. I use baking soda which would be esp. good to neutralise the lemon acid.

I am leaving my farm to the farm sitter for three weeks, but after that I can offer water kefir grains and kombucha scoby to anyone interested.

    Hey Madeleine,

I Like the lemon water, but I love ginger lemon water more!!! It’s really ginger tea, but I hate hot drinks, so I leave it to cool, add lemon and then drink it like that. Really refreshing and it is really good for you too!

That sounds very tasty too. Especially great for winter! Why do you make it hot then let it cool? Can’t you make it with cold water? Just had a friend over who was getting a cold so we grated some ginger, added some lemon and some manuka honey (plus echinacea) into hot water and she drank that. I’m sure she’ll be feeling better tomorrow. Thanks for sharing Mx

I have been thinking doing about this lately, but adding ice, slices of lemon and mint leaves, it’s so yummy and refreshing. Apparently eating cheese neutralisers the ph(or something) in your mouth, would this work? There is also a lady up here where I live that makes the yummiest kombucha.

That sounds like a great idea. I must add mint too. I’ve been using limes at the moment as there are ripe ones on our tree. so yummy. I just pop half a lime in the drink bottle and refill it with waster for several days. Cant wait to get some kombucha. Mx

Hi Madeleine. I used to have hot lemon and honey drinks every night, but now I have terribly worn away tooth enamel! Mainly on my front teeth, they’re discoloured and ugly. In fact I’ve had to have fillings on them because of it. My dentist too said it was from acidic drinks, or even eating lots of fruit, and then brushing teeth within 30 minutes. Sad how we only get one set of adult teeth. Look after them!

Wow so sorry to hear that. I’ll certainly keep that in mind. Mx

I’m obsessed with lemons and drinking lemon water. I drink it in room temp water though. I miss our old lemon tree. Did you know the new owners cut it down??? We were so upset when we found out.
