Baking soda and my vacuum cleaner

Baking soda is amazing it has so many uses in and around the home. I hate how vacuum cleaners smell when the bags get fuller and your machine gets a little older. Thankfully my latest discovery is to put a tablespoonish of baking soda into your vacuum cleaner bag before you put the bag in your vacuum cleaner. You could even add some essential oils too if you wanted to. I found my bag didn’t smell until it was really full and needed changing so much better than yucky vacuum cleaner smells every time you clean. Another win for baking soda.

We have three dogs and five cats so the rugs can occasionally be a bit whiffy. I sprinkle bicarb with citronella oil over the carpet, leave for 20 minutes and then vacuum. Instant refreshment!

Hi, thank you for the post! I’ve been looking at finding more frugal ways to look after my home now my kids are all at school and hubby works through the day. I think I’m doing well, I’m just looking at finding a good way to do my many rugs and a couple of carpets. In the past my husband has used carpet cleaning sutton coldfield to come and do it for us – he’s not very D.I.Y! And although I love having them clean for us I always like to learn how to do things for myself. So thanks again for posts like this… I’m going to try and do as you say and make them sparkle all on my own 🙂

Hi, great page. Just wanted to add another tip I find really handy – regularly clean your vacuum head to help stop grime building up and transferring to your carpet! Make sure it’s fully dry before using though as it could make it worse. Also, for people who are not able-bodied like me who can’t get family to help then I’d like to suggest using a company to do it – but look for the ones who have good feedback and don’t use harsh chemicals. My recommendation would be carpet cleaning birmingham but Google has loads 🙂
