Wholefood cookbooks

I’ll let in on a little secret I’m a super average cook. Yep not that great at all. Mr Ecochick is the chef in our home. He’s JUST AMAZING!!!! I always say I married him because he can cook (I’m half joking!). He really is amazing he can open the fridge and say we have this and this we can make this, that, and this! so my secret? I use a lot of cookbooks! I often use the recipes straight from the cooks or I change them to use what I have in the house. Cookbooks should be a stand alone amazing recipe or be an inspiration for a meal. These are my favourite authors/ cookbooks that I own and use ALL the time!

Emma Galloway

Emma Galloway is from the very successful blog My Darling Lemon Thyme. It’s no secret that I just LOVE Emma and her amazing cookbooks. I love her wholefood approach to cooking. Her books are all about vegetables! My favourite superstars!! I own both and LOVE both. You’ll want both as they are BOTH amazing! As a bonus her cookbooks are vegetarian/ vegan and gluten and diary free. She has fantastic setting up your pantry sections in both her cookbooks. Since her recipes are gluten free you’ll need to buy some different types of flour but once your pantry is set up you can make everything in her cookbook. These are the cookbooks I turn too when I don’t know what to make for dinner or if I need some inspiration in general.

Dr Libby

I love Dr Libby. I LOVE that she’s a biochemist and really knows her stuff when it comes to food and the human body!!! Her recipes do require some food items (some of which are expensive) that you might not find in your average pantry but once again when you’ve set your pantry up you can make anything and everything from her book. I love that her recipes are always about eating more vegetables! You can NEVER eat too many vegetables. She has three cookbooks two that are meal cookbooks plus some sweets and one that’s only sweets. I own all of them and recommend the meal cookbooks over the sweet one.

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall

I LOVE Hugh and everything he stands for. I just love River Cottage it’s my dream to go there one day and hang out in that amazing garden!! River Cottage has so many amazing cookbooks my favourite is Veg everyday as you guessed it it’s all about the vegetables! Theme here much!! I also like Light and Easy. I love that Hugh’s recipes are usually easy and in these two books action packed full of vegetables! Actually Meat is a very good book as well. It is like a textbook on meat including a section on eating less meat!

Thug kitchen

Thug kitchen is fast, noisy, full of swear words and full of awesome amazing vegetable packed recipes. The authors are based in California so is a great mixture of Mexican and wholefood recipes. The recipes in here are nothing like any of the other cookbooks and mixes spices and lemons together in a way that was some different to any other way we’ve ever cooked. Their first book is awesome. The new one looks great it’ll be under our tree this year.

Stephanie Alexander

Stephane Alexander is an Australian cooking legend! Her Cooks companion is THE cookbook encyclopedia. It’s our go to book when we don’t know how to cook something or need some extra help. Her knowledge of food and the million different ways to cook food is truly amazing!

Rick Stein

His energy and enthusiasm for food is contagious! Our favourite of his is India. If you only own one book about Indian cooking I’d make it this one. We use it all the time (well Mr Ecochick does I hardly ever cook curries). There is a bonus section at the back of the book with how to make your own spice mixes and fantastic basic tasty rice recipes. I got From Venice to Istanbul out from the library and enjoyed it as well but not sure if I need it though but it’s worth checking out.

Nicola Galloway

Nicola writes the very successful wholefood blog Homegrown Kitchen and also she does fantastic wholefood workshops all over the country that are so worth going to. Her book feeding little tummies is fantastic I always buy it for new mums and has my favourite pate recipe in it! Her recipes are always nutritionally complete and super wholesome. She has a new cookbook out early next year that I can’t wait to get my hands on. I have no doubt that I’ll just love it!

Hit me with your favourite go to authors or cookbooks? Who do I HAVE to check out?

I have no doubt I’ll add more as time goes on.
