Self raising flour substitute

I was making some banana muffins today and I didn’t have any self raising flour. I stopped buying self raising flour as I believe it is a waste of money and also I’m not sure how much baking powder is in each cup so I think it’s cheaper and better to make your own substitute.

Basically self raising flour is plain flour, baking powder and salt.

So to make your own take 1 cup plain flour and 1 teaspoon baking powder. If you’re using salted butter you don’t need to add any salt but if you’re using unsalted butter (this is more expensive here in New Zealand so I don’t buy it) add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the flour and baking powder. Happy baking.

Hi , Just popped onto your blog to get your SR flour recipe. You are right about buying it as is. It seems to end up sitting around for months and then if you are unlucky, the weevils find it before you do. Thanks
