I was making some banana muffins today and I didn’t have any self raising flour. I stopped buying self raising flour as I believe it is a waste of money and also I’m not sure how much baking powder is in each cup so I think it’s cheaper and better to make your own substitute.
Basically self raising flour is plain flour, baking powder and salt.
So to make your own take 1 cup plain flour and 1 teaspoon baking powder. If you’re using salted butter you don’t need to add any salt but if you’re using unsalted butter (this is more expensive here in New Zealand so I don’t buy it) add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the flour and baking powder.
