Chicken poop everywhere!!! Yes that’s right chickens poop everywhere!! I was so sick of it being all over the deck, you had to wear gumboots when on the deck so not cool!!! So when I went away for my birthday weekend I came home and Mr Ecochick and John had started a fence for me. Best birthday surprise ever.
John loves to help papa build and hammer. He’s such a good helper.
I love my new fence when it closes behind me making that clicking sound of the catch closing I really feel like I’m on my own farm as it sounds like a farm gate closing. I plan to put all my planters along the fence/ deck line as it is such a sunny spot. I also have a planter basket I want to add to the fence. It’ll all look so grand.
The fence across the side garden has been made as one section so we can remove it if we need to for whatever reason. We reused leftover wire from the chicken coop for this section. The rest of the fence is new treated timber so it won’t rot with the harsh New Zealand sun. I can’t wait to have silverbeet and spinach again away from my naughty chook’s beaks!
Always the engineer. Again I think the wood will rot before it comes apart.
When the little gate was closed there was a nasty pinch point and I had visions of Gabriel’s little fingers caught in the gate as John closed it behind him. So Mr Ecochick added some extra wood and planned out the side so little fingers can go in but wont get crushed in the gate.
My second gate that goes off the deck. This one is much larger than the other one and opens flat against the wall. Doesn’t it all look great? The chicken’s are really peeved at us and have now started to dig up the grass since they are no longer allowed on the deck. Their favourite spot used to be on the back-door step so we’ll have to build them a little shelter they can go in when it’s raining. We still need to water blast the deck to get rid of all the poop but wow I’m so loving my fence.
