Five natural acne remedies

Five natural acne remedies is an informative guest post by Christine Maddox. We all have days where we wake up with that big red painful pimple on your face and no doubt you’ll have an important event coming up (ok generally not such a big deal when you’re an adult but horrible and embarrassing when you’re a teenager). I remember using honey and tea tree oil on them when I was a teenager plus chemical compounds so I’m glad I know how these tips so I can help my boys when their time comes. 
I had terrible acne growing up and I still have an outbreak every once in a while even today. However I hate to use those harsh chemicals that store bought acne treatments have in them. That is why I have looked for natural ways to treat and prevent break outs. Here are a few things you can try:
acne_natural_remedies1. Lemons – Lemon juice is an acid and can help to dry up pimples. Although daily usage over your entire face is not recommended, dabbing on lemon juice with a cotton swab directly to the breakout twice a day should help them to go away faster.
2. Honey – Honey has antibacterial qualities so it works well on breakouts. Dab over the acne and let it dry. Then rinse off. For hard to remove acne dab on and then cover with a bandage and let sit overnight.
3. Tea Tree Oil – Tea tree oil works as an astringent and cleanser. Dab a few drops on the spots, but make sure to use a very small amount as it is highly concentrated. The acne should clear up quickly.
4. Yoghurt – Plain yoghurt contains lactic acid which helps to kill bacteria. Apply to your whole face and let sit several minutes and then rinse for a preventative. If you are treating a breakout try mixing two tablespoons of yoghurt with one teaspoon of lemon juice and a few drops of tea tree oil. Dab on the blemish and let it sit until morning.
5. Aloe Vera – This cactus like plant is a virtual cure all. It soothes, reduces redness and works as a wound healing agent. If you can try to use a fresh leaf. Cut off the spines and slice lengthwise. Then apply a thin layer of the pulp to your whole face and let sit for a few minutes. Rinse off and your face should feel moisturized and refreshed. Apply the aloe directly to breakouts and let sit overnight for greater effects.
If you are more concerned about immediately getting rid of the redness, try ice. Applying very cold water or ice to the red spots can reduce swelling and redness fast and keep it down for several hours. Although it does not cure the acne it is a great idea for breakouts that happen just before a special event.
